Summer Scripture Splash

Preparation:
We put the scriptures on large papers and displayed them near each activity.<P>
Before each activity we briefly discussed the background for the scripture on the poster or explained how it applied to us or the activity.

1. Squirt guns
"The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out." Proverbs 13:9

Two to four people race to put out lit candles by squirting the flames with squirt guns.

2. Tree of life
"The tree of life, whose fruit is most precious and most desirable above all other fruits; yea, and it is the greatest of all the gifts of God." 1 Nephi 15:36

We hung donuts by strings from the branches of a tree ahead of time. We had an all out race to see who could eat their donut first.

3. Bottled water
"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; But the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14

We had a bucket of ice and water bottles by the tree of life.

4. Scripture battle
"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him." Proverbs 30:5

We divided into two teams. Each side took a couple of turns. The defenders took toy swords and shields to try to deflect the attacks. We marked out a large area with cones that they had to stay in. We had scripture mastery scripture references on slips of paper in a large bowl. When the battle began, the attackers took wet sponges, wet water balls, and squirt guns and started trying to get the defenders wet. One person on the defenders team has to take a scripture reference, find it in the scriptures and read it outloud. The bishop listened to make sure they actually read the scripture. It was such a crazy battle, no one could really hear the reader. Then we switched and the defenders became the attackers.

5. Tug of war
"And as the remainder of our army were about to give way before the Lamanites, behold, those two thousand and sixty were firm and undaunted.” Alma 57:20

We had a tug of war with a sprinkler in the center.

6. Water balloon volleyball
"And he who is faithful shall overcome all things, and shall be lifted up at the last day." D&C 75:16

Two to four people hold the edges of a beach towel. Several people with towels are on each side. Start a water balloon by throwing it over with a towel. The other side catches it in a towel and then throws it back.

After the water balloon volleyball, we played volleyball with a 3 foot giant beach ball.

At one point, we had an all out water fight, but that's what happens at a water party.
