Want some cake?

Bring in a beautifully baked cake into class. Ask the students if they would like a piece of the cake. Choose someone that says yes and with your hand grab out a piece of cake and slap it down on a plate and hand it to them. Of course, they will be shocked. Use this to show that the gospel is more attractive depending on how it is served. Then slice a nice piece of cake to show the contrast and let the class members have a piece of cake asking how they would like theirs served. This was very successful with the youth. Read Alma 4:10 together: "And the wickedness of the church was a great stumbling-block to those who did not belong to the church; and thus the church began to fail in its progress."? The church was stopped in it's progress because the members were not living the Gospel they professed. It matters how we dress, what we do, what we say, and how honest we are because we are serving up the church at ALL times, even when we don't think about it. Invite the class to think about how they are serving the gospel to others. Source: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Flats/4746/lessons.html

I saw this done in 1979 in Newbury Park, CA by Mabel Wishart - it was an amazing presentation of Eternal Marriage and keeping ourselves clean and pure for our husbands. How do we want to live our lives? Immorally and impure and just hand ourselves to our potential husband all helter skelter or lovely, nicely decorated, neatly sliced and served with respect. it was very impressive. She had decorated the cake like a beautiful wedding cake. I will never forget it.
