At the program which was held in the chapel, we have an opening song (Teach Me To Walk In The Light) and opening prayer. Then we have a speaker who gives a brief talk on the importance of education and why the church values it so much (The glory of God is intelligence, etc.) Then we have a musical number by one of the youth.

We give this to our Nursery leaders, our teachers and music leaders. I cannot tell you how satisfying it is to see the look on their faces when they see how much we as a primary presidency appreciate them.

  • History of Relief Society Program -
The Idea Door has this great History of Relief Society Program! Thanks to Becky Schultz of Sandy City, Utah for sharing this great skit! I wrote the following Readers Theater for our Relief Society Birthday party, March 2006. I had 2 narrators that took turns with the narrator parts and had individual sisters read the parts of the Presidents. The program took about 30 minutes. Originally, it took about 45 minutes, but I felt that was too long for sisters interest, so sadly, I cut it down. You could add to it or vary it in any way you would like. I encouraged each participant reading for the Presidents to wear something, if possible, to appear like that president. Some did and some didn’t.

  • New Beginnings Flower Headband Craft - Mia Maids -
Reese Dixon came up with this super cute idea for making an easy, inexpensive headband for the YW in her group. "When I was only responsible for the laurels, I came up with a little something to make for them to welcome advancing Mia Maids into our class. Now that I'm responsible for everyone, I had to come up with something to welcome advancing Beehives into the Mia Maid class, and primary girls into the Beehive class. ... "
  • New Beginnings Headband Craft - Laurels -
Reese Dixon shares her idea on how to make a Laurel-themed headband: "...I decided that when the girls in my ward turn 16 and enter my class, we should have a little ceremony in opening exercises where we crown them with a laurel wreath and then all the rest of the Laurels give them hugs and air kisses. I thought it was just a fun goofy little thing to do until I found out that the girls were wearing their headbands to school and all the older Laurels started begging me for their own headbands...." I think her "crowning" idea would be great for YW in Excellence.
  • Beehive / Bee Headband Craft -
Reese Dixon's Bee Hairband is my favorite of her headband ideas! "...Beehives are right on that cusp where you can still get away with something pretty cute. Which is a good thing, because I could not come up with a way to make a beehive fashionable. Versions of this ribbon bee are floating around the internet all over the place, but here's how I made mine...." Her "crowning" idea would make a fun YW in Excellence.

  • Teacher Appreciation Ideas: YWConnection -
We have done a Teacher Appreciation Night for the past two years and they have both been wonderful. We've done it on a stake level with the public affairs committee being in charge, but on the ward level would work just as well. The youth are asked to write an essay about their favorite teacher which is turned into the committee. The teachers are then invited to the Appreciation Night.
