What Is New Beginnings?

New Beginnings is an annual event teaching the purposes of the LDS Young Women organization. It includes an orientation to the Personal Progress program and to the Young Women theme, logo, motto, and values. It is usually held at the ward or branch level.

The purpose of a New Beginnings Program is to teach young women and their parents about the Young Women organization, provide an opportunity to encourage parents to help young women in Personal Progress experiences, provide an opportunity for leaders to express love for young women and acknowledge their accomplishments, and to help young women and parents plan for events of the coming year.

New Beginnings is held at the beginning of the calendar year. It may be held during Mutual. LDS Young Women, their parents, and priesthood and Young Women leaders are invited to New Beginnings.

A Young Women's New Beginnings Program usually includes some or all of the following:

  • Recognition of young women who have turned 12, moved into the ward, or joined the Church in the past year
  • Recognition for Personal Progress accomplishments
  • Music
  • Talks by members of the ward, such as parents, young women, and priesthood leaders
  • Presentations and new beginnings skits
  • Review of events planned for the coming year

2007 Mutual Script - Daughter of a King

Jenny Phillips (not me, Jenny Smith) has written this script to accompany her CD, Daughter of a King. Simply order the CD, and *poof* New Beginnings or Standards Night is taken care of!

The script calls for 6 Young Women speaking parts and 1 adult narrator, though you could perform it with as few as 3 people.

Young Women in Excellence ~ 2005

Preparation: 
We arranged to have our Evening of Excellence in the Chapel. Sunday Dress was Required. Bishopric was invited to preside. <BR>Setup: This is what we used:<BR>7 skinny 8" clear glass vases, 7 single flowers, one for each Value color (we used silk, but real may also be used)thin ribbon in each Value Color, and a large bouqet of "wildflowers" in the 7 Value colors, nicely arranged. A large Vase for the bouquet.<BR>Refreshemnts were provided by the YW. Beehives were assigned Drinks, MIA Maids: cheese crackers and fruit. Laurels: "Sweet Treats" Leaders: paper products and decorations. The girls were also asked to have "displays" of different talents and Personal Project projects they wished.<BR>Nice invitations were printed and hand delivered to parents, programs for the evening's event were handed out to each person as they entered that evening.

Young Women Values Pageant Skit - UPDATED WITH VIRTUE

This skit takes about 25 minutes to perform (and that was with our 3 "commercials" and a solo). It makes a great New Beginnings activity. I've participated in or performed in this skit as long ago as 1986, but despite its age, the skit is a gem and really makes the girls think about the value they are assigned.
